So...there are these dudes who think Geek Girls are not really real?
Are you fucking KIDDING me?
I pitched a fit when the network cancelled Man from Atlantis*.
One of my favorite memories is being introduced to The Hobbit by another girl in high school.
Dune is STILL my favorite fucking all time SF book EVAH!!!11!!
I was a teenager when I met Isaac Asimov at a BSI* gathering and got his autograph. Still have it. (Nyah Nyah)
I collected Hulk comics as a young girl and collected Cerebus* well into my 40's.
I remember when 'Anime' was called 'Japanamation'
No one - of ANY gender - should have to explain, justify or quantify an interest or passion for appreciating anything they find fascinating, interesting, scientific, cool, spiffy or neato. No one "owns" appreciation of creative ideas. All you need is an imagination, and that in NOT contingent on genitalia.
I rarely run into this sort of crap, but I have. Most fandom is staggeringly openminded about social trends that take decades to hit mainstream.
If you pull that sort of shit then all you do is reveal yourself to be a small-minded git who is WAY behind the times.
And that is pitiful.
Grok on, people.
